A message from the Director:

WELCOME!

Thank you so much for your interest in audition for Firebird’s 2020 mainstage production of The Wizard of Oz!  We are committed to providing a fun and educational experience for everyone again this summer and will be employing some interesting reconceptualization for this production. Our Oz will have a modern sensibility, utilizing the darkness inherent in the story to show Dorothy’s dream world (nightmare?) in a more realistic way. This will allow cast and crew alike to explore deeper character development, script analysis skills, and more intricate design concepts (see some inspiration here: https://www.pinterest.com/courtneyboches/modern-oz-2020/). However, we’re not interested in making the show gratuitously dark and gritty; every choice will serve a purpose and everything we do will still honor the heart, thematic elements, and beloved characters in this classic tale. We are, however, interested in giving the cast more freedom of expression and exploration and look forward to collaborating on a truly interesting, modern take on one of our favorite stories. We hope you’ll join us this summer for a different and challenging theatrical production!

AUDITIONS:
We will be doing video auditions this year, as the health of our performers and staff is the highest priority.  Please find the submission information and character breakdown below.
Online audition forms and videos have been extended and are now due by midnight on Thursday,  April 30th.
Performers will be notified the following week if video callbacks are necessary.

Please be patient with us as we coordinate viewing all your submissions and video conference together to cast the show. It will take a bit longer than under normal circumstances!
